So Lost finale, and just about nothing was answered. I started to figure it was the kid that the others really want, once the lady said "the boy".

Sawyer is shot, the security system is a bunch of smoke and mirrors, the hatch leads to a long drop that has a broken ladder, and kibbles and bits all over the Black Rock.

I liked how they showed the flashbacks to the day of the flight and showing how different people have brief encounters right before take off.

You forgot the fact that the thing that you thought was just a piece of cloth that blew up the engine was part of the "monster"/security system.

What is the smoke though? One theory is nanotechnology. There seem to be two different types of clouds that appeared during that scene. There was the one with faces in it that took on different shapes and then there were puffs of smoke that looked like they would come from a coal (or some other similar fuel) burning machine. What was up with the roller coaster noise? I don't think that smoke and mirrors is appropriate for something that can either rip trees out of the ground or force them out of the ground from below. It was also able to drag a grown man pretty fast for a long distance. Smoke and mirrors would imply that it's nothing or that it's truly a lot less than it appears to be. Since it doesn't really appear to be anything at this point then I don't know if that's proper terminology to use.

The specifics of the hatch weren't given, but we do know that it's the opening to a long passage to something else. There was a possability that it just went a little way down and was filled with "twinkies and TV dinners."

Arzt going ka-blewy was one of the best parts of the episode. It added a lot of drama to the rest of the scenes involving the dynamite (even if I thought that holding torches near the backpacks wasn't the best idea).

I expected myself being disappointed if they didn't give some answers, but I liked the episode a lot. The mysteries of the island are secondary to me. The reason that this show is as good as it is are the characters and their development.

I'm also not a big fan of the whole big reveal and cliffhanger formula. I like what they did here. Things were definitely stepped up a bit, but this just continued to progress the story. If they give away too much too soon then they end up with a Twin Peaks situation. Check out ratings for the show before and after they revealed who killed Laura Palmer.

Tons of stuff set up for season 2. Did Charlie grab a full statue and did he grab it for the drugs or as a religious symbol to help him refrain from the drug. Will all of the raft people make it back to the island? If so, where on the island will they land? Locke/Jack/Sayid confrontations. Etc.

Smoke and Mirrors was just a saying, i know it's more then that :). And I'm still confused about the engine exploding, do you mean while the plane was in the air?

Nope, while the engine was on the beach. Remember that animated GIF that I sent you? It looks a lot like the swarm that Jack and Kate saw in the jungle. I'm sure that's not the only damage that the "swarm" or at least the security system did to the plane.

Sorry about jumping on the smoke and mirrors thing. I had just read a bunch of whining on the Lost forums where people wanted to see a big T-Rex or some other creature and find out everything about the hatch on Wednesday. I would guarantee that the second season would suck if both of those things happened.

I'm not a big fan of the story being dictated by stupid TV schedules. I'm just hoping that exploration of the hatch doesn't reveal that the dynamite thrown down there caused a big rock slide blocking off the passageway. I'm hoping that the main focus of season 2 is the exploration of the hatch and trying to get Walt back.

A black piece of cloth wouldn't cause the turbine to explode. Birds get caught up in plane engines all of the time and they don't explode. There's also no way that a black piece of cloth swoops down and then back up that quickly. Throw a piece of cloth through the air and watch what happens to it.

Well that's what it looks like!

Besides I don't have a jet/turbine engine to drop the cloth in front of... ;)

Yes, but the cloth isn't going to come out unscathed and then fly up into the air. Take a piece of cloth and ball it up and throw it. It doesn't keep its shape and it doesn't fly far. A jet engine won't change this much.

Between the behavior of the thing and the fact that the engine explodes, I've got to say it is the same thing we saw in the finale.
